Good day ladies and gentlemen today am going to be pointing out the top largest dog breeds that are available in Nigeria, a lot of research has being made and brains of some experienced dog breeders and experts in Nigeria has being put together in determining the largest dog breeds we have here in Nigeria, gone are the days were man's best friends are not valued, cared for and treated nicely in the society most people now see there dogs and pets like part of the family which is very correct like I once Quoted I see a very bright future in Dog breeding in Nigeria a lot of importations has being made over the years by some devoted breeders and lots of breeds which were initially not available in Nigeria has been made available I see a bright future in K9 breeding in Nigeria I see a time were one would no longer need to import to get a pedigree puppy he or she may desire. Firstly in determing the  largest dog breeds in Nigeria a lot of features has to be put in consideration some important features includes -Height -weight -Body structure -Bone size -size of paws -Head structure -Bulkyness all this features combine to determine the top 5 biggest and most importantly the dog must be available in Nigeria to be considered a contestant to be in the list of the Big 5, which means some dogs which are extremely large but are not available in Nigeria may be excluded from the list. Enough talking let's go straight to business like the old saying picture is worth a thousand words so I tried my best to make sure all pictures being posted on this thread were taken here in Nigerian DISCLAIMER: I am in no way or manner assuming ownership of any Dog being posted here I am only a dog lover with compassion for this majestical animals who see's the relevant of pointing out the top 5 breeds available in Nigeria in order to help people in determing the largest and best dog breed to suit them since size matters in Guarding. All pictures being posted here are courtesy of there different kennels and belongs to the respective owners and breeders in Nigeria thank you. 5) BREED: BOERBEL The Boerboel also known as the South African Mastiff, is a large, Molosser-type breed from South Africa bred They have impressive muscular head structure and short mutts they are generally regarded as guard dogs and are very teritorial arround there home The body is blocky, muscular and solid, with good depth and width. The back is broad and straight, with pronounced muscles. The ribcage is well sprung and well filled behind the shoulder blades. The coat is short, dense, smooth and shiny. The skin is thick and loose but fits smoothly Skin is well pigmented. Boerbel are very popular dog breeds in Nigeria and are strong willed with motive to guard and defend what belongs to them if not properly socailize then you are in for something big because when they attack they inflict a lot of damage to who ever they may see as treat to there family and property in summary Boerbel are very energetic large and extremely teritorial I wouldn't recommend this breeds for first time owners AVERAGE HEIGHT:24-27 inches WEIGHT: 120-180 pounds COLORS: Mahogany, Red, Fawn, Brindle, Cream, Brown, Piebald

4)BREED: NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF The Neapolitan Mastiff or Mastino / Mastini is a large, ancient dog breed. This massive breed is often used as a guard and defender of family and property due to their protective instincts and their fearsome appearance. Neapolitan mastiff very large breeds with big bones and loosed skins, they are mildly intelligent Neapolitan mastiff are also classified under the mastiff family they have thick barks they don't actually bark much but when they do the message is loud and clear to any intruder passing bye added to the fears looks and dropping jaws the sheer face and size of a Neapolitan mastiff is enough to do the job of keeping strangers off for good AVERAGE HEIGHT: 25- 31 inches WEIGHT: 110-220 pounds COLORS: Black, Tawny, Mahogany

3) BREED: SAINT BERNARD The St. Bernard or St Bernard is a breed of very large working dog from Swiss Alps and north Italy and Switzerland, originally bred for rescue. The breed has become famous through tales of alpine rescues, as well as for its enormous size, saint bernard are extremely large breeds but not too popular here in Nigeria unlike the Caucasians and German Shepherd if well taken care of they can grow extremely heavy and normally have thick barks enough to scare any intruder away from your home Saint Bernard are large but not as aggressive as some under-listed dog breeds here like boerbel and Caucasian, saint are very loyal dogs breeds with good urge to please it's owner, to me I recommend this breeds as family dogs AVERAGE HEIGHT: 24-35 inches WEIGHT: 130-260 pounds COLOR: Reddish-brown Brindle, Reddish-brown Splash, Reddish-brown Mantle, Brownish-yellow, Red & White

2) BREED: CAUCASIAN OVCHARKA The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a large breed of dog that is popular in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and North Caucasus area. This breed is actually my favorite among all they are generally regarded as large breeds dogs they appear in different shapes and sizes they vary in size some grow extremely large males can easily top 300 ibs depending on environmental factor, bloodline and the type and quality of food provided for them. Caucasian ovcharka don't actually do very well in Nigeria because of the extreme hot whether condition which doesn't favour there furs and hairy nature inherited by the breed. Caucaisn Ovcharka are known to be very teritorial and could easily inflict serious damage on humans if not properly socialised personally I recommend this breed for people who are security causious and keeping intruders away from there home caucasian ovcharka should be properly socailize and tought basic obidence training early enough from puppy hood owners are therefore advice to take charge as leader of the park else the dominant nature of the caucasian could be a serious problem because of there very large size and bulkyness they tend to be very stubborn and may often mistake themselves as leaders of the park AVERAGE HEIGHT: 24-35 inches WEIGHT: 110-300 ibs COLORS: Black, White, Rust, Grey, Fawn, Cream

1)TIBETAN MASTIFF  The Tibetan Mastiff is a type of large Tibetan dog breed. Originating with the nomadic cultures of China, India, Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet, its use by local tribes of Himachal Pradesh was to protect sheep from wolves, leopards, bears, large mustelids, and tigers, not much is actually known about the tibetan mastiff dog in Nigeria because very view kennels breed them here but one thing is for sure they can grow extremely large and are often mistake to be lions because of there hairy nature and lion- like look Getting a pure pedigree tibetan mastiff is very difficult here in Nigeria unless imported the sheer size and look of the tibetan mastiff is enough to send intruders off ur lane and neighbour parking tibetan mastiff are extremely large and expensive therefore this dog breeds are recommended for only experience dog owners and breeders who know what it takes AVERAGE HEIGHT: 25-35 inches WEIGHT: 140-300 pounds COLOUR: Black, Blue Gray, Brown & Tan, Black & Tan, Red Gold, Brown
